Neutral Mutations

NEUTRAL MUTATIONS or “silent mutations” are mutations that do not affect an organism’s fitness because the mutation did not alter the final folded or native protein form. These are also called synonymous mutations because the same folded protein emerges despite the mutation, despite an incorrect amino acid being used in the protein chain.
