ATP

« Back to Glossary Index

Everything alive is composed of cells and all cells need energy to live. The primary supply of energy of the cell is provided by a chemical structure called ATP (a·den·o·sine tri·phos·phate). A simple analogy is ATP works similar to a rechargeable battery. Breaking off a phosphate that provides energy, then adding the phosphate back (recharged). ATP produces energy for nearly every function of every living cell.
