Paleontologists or archaeologists primarily within the scientific fields of dinosaur or “early” human fossils. Lumpers are scientists who tend to find similarities within their discoveries and identify them as being similar to existing species. The opposite of a Lumper is a Splitter. Splitters tend to determine their discoveries as a newly discovered species. Splitters are greatly encouraged to discover new species as this gains notoriety, opportunities for publishing, and primarily discovering a new species (especially in the field of human evolution) assures future funding.
