Paleontologists or archaeologists primarily within the scientific fields of dinosaur or “early” human fossils. Splitters are scientists who tend to find a new species within their discoveries. The opposite of a Splitter is a Lumper. Lumpers tend to categorize their discoveries based on similarities to existing species. Splitters are the most common because they are greatly encouraged to discover new species as this gains notoriety, opportunities for publishing, and primarily discovering a new species (especially in the field of human evolution) assures future funding.
